Phase-it - Speaker Polarity Tester

Correct polarity?

Gato Audio has re-introduced a simple but efficient tool for the loudspeaker developer, manufacturer and for the DIY and car stereo enthusiast; the loudspeaker polarity detector called Phase-it.

The majority normally use a battery whose current makes a visual polarity detection of a loudspeaker possible. However this principle is not very suitable with drivers connected through a high pass crossover, which treble and midrange drivers typically are.

The Phase-it operates by sending a harmless electrical pulse into the speaker. The built-in microphone detects the reproduced acoustic pulse and illuminates an LED green or red; green for correct polarity and red for reversed polarity. This makes the Phase-it especially well suited for difficult accessible or hidden speakers, for instance built into the door of a car.

It’s a common problem when you design a crossover in a large and complex system, that a driver easily is connected with the wrong phase polarity. This could cause a lot of wasted time, but with the Phase-it, it’s now possible to check every single driver in just a blink of an eye (which is quite fast =) ).

The Phase-it is built with a microprocessor which ensures a more precise detection/measurement and also ensures very low power consumption. The Phase-it automatically shuts itself down when not in use.

The housing is built entirely from aluminum, which means that it is built to last in a rough environment and for many years. The Phase-it is supplied together with a manual, battery and test wires with clips for easy connection.
